My Setup

So, since I have nothing else to talk about at the moment, I'm going to talk about my snowboard. I'm about to be the proud owner of a banana board. Banana boards take the riders weight off of the edges and focuses it directly underneath the bindings for more stability and control. It has a flex rating depending the length, so I am unsure as to its actual rating.
I haven't decided what bindings I want yet, but i think I am going to get Ride Ex bindings made of aircraft grade aluminum, so they're super light.

Saftey First, Teamwork Second

Today I will be discussing the importance of saftey. While it may seem lame to you to wear a helmet, I speak from experience when I say that helmets are useful. Having suffered from one concussion already, I like to wear my helmet when I go through the park. Not really on the slopes though. The slopes are a lot more chill and the worst I'm going to hit is another boarder or a tree. The park is a pretty dangerous place if you don't know what you're doing, but it's nice to have that insurance that, "If I smoke my dome on this rail, my brains aren't going to pop out of my skull or turn into a bleeding mass of jello."
Secondly: teamwork. Teamwork is what will save your butt up on that mountain. Say you and your buddy are ripping through some trees in 3 feet of powder, and you catch an edge and fly face first, downhill, and into a tree. More than likely, you're going to be one sore son of a bee sting, and you aren't going to want to move. So you have your buddy go get ski patrol. or just make sure you're alright and laugh in your face when he knows you're good.

Characteristics

Since there’s nothing else to write about this week, I guess I’m going to talk about different characteristics of boards. This includes edge, flex, twin directional, binding set up, and camber.

Edges of the board are typically metal. Certain boards have different sharpness and hardness of edges when you buy them brand new. Some boards have very hard and sharp edges, allowing the rider to turn on a dime.

Flex is the amount of, well, flex that the board has. The more flexible the board, the better; A board with a flex rating of 1 could practically be wrapped around your waist. A board with a flex rating of 10 may as well be a 2 by 4 strapped to your feet.

If your board is twin directional, it has no designated nose or tail.

Some bindings require a specific hole in the board. It’s kind of tough to explain without pictures, but I will try. Basic bindings are just screwed in to the holes with a Phillips screw driver. Other binding set ups allow you to slide your bindings up or down the board without actually removing them. There are even bindings that click in rather than strap you in, allowing the rider to do a whole new variety of tricks.

Camber just refers to the general shape of the board; the curve from the nose to the tail, and the bow of the board. Bow of the board means if the nose and tail curve towards the rider, or towards the ground. Granted, the nose and tail always point slightly upward.

New Lift

Terry Peak ski resort is building a high speed quad lift for the "Little Hope" black diamond run. This lift will be exclusively for the "Little Hope" run. This lift, the "Goldcorp Express", will replace the "Empress" lift. The "Empress" has been in service for over 37 years, and has been an aid to hardcore boarders and skiiers.
This ski lift will be an awesome addition to the already amazing Terry Peak mountain. I just can't wait to shred it up this winter :)

Snowboarding Season

Snowboarding season; a time of peace and calm, a time of rejoice and happiness, a time of face plants and broken limbs (hopefully the skiers). As the snow drifts into treacherous moguls, the fog gathers on my goggles, and the chair lift creeks and moans, I mentally prepare myself. "This is it, guys. First drop of the season," I say as the lift approaches its destination. "Nobody die this year." And the drop begins. The rush of the ground flying mere centimeters beneath your feet at 40 miles an hour is incredible; almost indescribable. Snowboarding is a hell of a drug.

1st Post

Snowboarders Anonymous is a blog about how great snowboarding is and what snowboarding is about. Having been a boarder for some time now, I found this to be a fitting subject.
